Short Jim Groom vid on LMS

June 5, 2009

Thanks to Brian Lamb’s missives / tweets (@brlamb) from the Teaching with Technology Idea Exchange TTIX I came across this short Chronicle of Education interview (link) with Mary Washington University Instructional Technologist Jim Groom (bio).

In addition to the obvious and important critique of the corporate model of prorietary CMS/LMS systems, Groom’s idea about instructional media / elearning being at a point in history that is reminiscent of early film really struck a chord. The idea that practioners can and will define the space is truly exciting to me and I think/hope that those of us working in art + design schools or with practice-based research might take a leading role.

On that note, I’ll also point to a viral video, which Brian most recent blog post (go hard, or go home) suggests, “may or may not explain the rise of Twitter, but it certainly illustrates that if you bring it hard, the energy can become infectious, and just might create something beautiful…”
