The show featured over sixty beautiful illustrations by Emily Carr students, alumni and visiting artists!

THE VELVET SHOW
Illn’s Velvet Show, held from April 5th to 21st at Chapel Arts Gallery!
We will begin to hang the work from April 5th and you can preview the show by appointment! Then Saturday, April 21st, we will be holding our Grand Closing Event, open to the all for the low low $5.00 cover! This is the night after the Foundation Show Opening, and so between the two you’ll have a great chance to relax and blow off some steam at the end of term! I know I intend to get adorably drunk on both counts, bring your cameras!
Submissions for the show are open from April 5th right up until the closing and all works can be dropped off in the dropbox at NB279!
For materials and supplies we suggest Dressew 337 West Hastings Street, who have velvet for between $7.99 and $12.99 per meter! Feel free to use any color and style!

SUMMER II NYC OFF CAMPUS EXPERIENCE | New York, NY – June 25-29, 2012
New York City remains the hot spot for all forms of illustration. Students will meet professionals, create potential career contacts and gain insights to their own work through a combination of portfolio reviews, candid talks and formal presentations. Students will be exposed to the diverse job markets in the illustration field by visiting editorial publications, book publishers, art departments and other illustration producing studios. The 3-cr hour seminar/online class encompasses shop talks with working professionals in their studios and offices, a visit to the Society of Illustrators, and trips to illustration museums.

ARTIST TALK WITH DAVE MCCAIG
Come down and check out visiting artist Dave McCaig Saturday, March 24! Dave is going to be giving a workshop on the art of storytelling within the comic medium, covering subject, layout, coloring and text. He will be answering questions, and plans on spending time at the end (and possibly afterwards!) reviewing participants’ work. This workshop is open to non-students, and only $10 for ECU students purchasing in advance! This event will raise funds for the Illustration Club, so come down and bring your friends!
Tickets are $10 for students at any Ill’n Club Meet, or $20 at the door for everyone.

READING WEEK OFF CAMPUS EXPERIENCE | Los Angeles, CA – FEB 20-24, 2012
Los Angeles, CA is the gateway to the entertainment illustration and animation. Through this off-campus experience, students will meet professionals, create potential career contacts and gain insights to their own work through a combination of portfolio reviews, candid talks and formal presentations. Students will be exposed to the diverse job markets in the illustration field by visiting studios, art departments and other content producing studios. The week-long trip will encompasses shop talks with working professionals in their studios and trips to illustration and art museums.
We will have our final interest meeting, December 9th at 4:30 pm in Room 278.

ANTHOLOGY | Daydreams and Nightmares – DUE DATE Monday, DEC 5, 2011
The ECUAD Fall Anthology Project for 2011 is entitled: Daydreams and Nightmares. The Group Show Opening will be in the Concourse Gallery, December 13 through 20.
Each student will create artwork using the theme of either Daydreams or Nightmares. Each student has three four-colour pages dedicated to explore the topic of Daydreams or Nightmares. Additionally, students will have a title page for their name, contact information, and Daydream or Nightmare statement.
The students can explore the theme through single images or multiple images, or sequentially. Style and subject matter is determined by the student.

TRANSLINK | Art on Transit Banner Competition – DUE DATE Monday, NOV 21, 2011
Art on Transit is a new pilot initiative for TransLink, building on the success of the Poetry in Transit program, which seeks to bring visual art into the transit environment through on-vehicle advertising panels featuring emerging artists. This is a great way for ILLN members to use their artwork to decorate the buses. EACH accepted submission will win the illustrator $250.
