A littoral zone?

For the marine biologist, oceanographer, sailor or beachcomber the littoral zone is "literally" the intertidal zone -- a place "in between" and alongside the high and low tides, a place that reveals as much as it covers. This blog is a celebration of the ocean's meniscus, a place Barry Lopez has described as a "mysterious surface, a wafer-thin realm where air bounds water, where light suddenly changes flux [and] ambient sound changes register." It is also a celebration of water, words, and dappled worlds. As a photographer, videographer and lover of marine animals, I have come to believe that the littoral zone is a space of endless gifting and exchange, a place that demands our attention, our care, our patience, and ultimately our respect. ________________________________________________
