4D Sketch
1. Open the 4D Sketch application by locating the needle and thread icon in the toolbar or by opening the QUICKLINK tab in the main toolbar at the top of the screen and scroll down to the 4D Sketch link.
2. Once the Sketch wizard has opened there will be a list of four options to choose from. i.e./ load picture for a new embroidery, load picture and embroidery, etc.)
3. Select the appropriate section that will lead you to begin sketching you own design. NOTE: unfortunately we do not have a pen and drawing tablet, which is recommended for this application, but you can use the mouse. I admit it is limiting but fun at the same.
4. Next it will ask you to select your hoop size. If you are unsure look at the hoops available for the machine and cross-reference it with what is listed in the software.
5. From here load your imagery. If you choose to explore a stock image look under C:\4Dembroidery\samples\sketch\stitch
6. Next you have the option of rotating your image. If you image is positioned correctly than by pass this section.
7. From here it will ask if you would like to select all of your image, if you need to make any adjustments, this is your time to do so.
8. Next you can select your thread colour and adjust the height if the image.
9. Following this you can adjust the alignment of your stitches before moving onto the final screen. From here your image will appear and you can begin to sketch using the mouse.
10. The screen has two tabs located in the bottom right hand side of the screen that read, DESIGN and MOTIF.
11. DESIGN will allow you select the type of stitches, adjust thread colour, speed, etc, whereas, MOTIF allows you to manipulate and specify the height of your stitches and apply patterned imagery within your embroidery. These areas have a lot to offer so exploration is very necessary if you are building and image from scratch!!!
12. Once you are finished building an image you must save it as a .dst file. You can do this by locating the disc icon in the toolbar.
