Interwoven exhibit: Concourse gallery, Emily Carr
Well, this posting is a little past due but its better late than never. My intention was to post earlier but as the end of the semester looms the final assignments, essays, etc have been more time consuming than I originally factored into my schedule…..but I must say proudly that I am on top of everything!!! I guess everything except my blog
Okay now I digress….
We recently had an exhibition at Emily Carr in the Concourse Gallery titled INTERWOVEN that ran from March 13-21st, 2009. I did have an installation in the show of a series of printed yardages that I produced in a previous semester’s Advanced Print Media course. An image of this series will be included in the grad show book that will available this May. In the meantime, for those who cannot wait to see an image or have forgotten what piece I am referring to than I will include in my gallery of images for this section.
Although, the piece in this show was not embroidered, I was asked by the organizers of the show to embroider the sign for the exhibit. After 8.5 hours at high speed I was able to produce a banner that was approx. 9 ft. long x 1 ft. I still have a hard time believing it took that long but yes it did and I hope I don’t have to do it again!!! I mean I have no problem sitting and working on my own projects for hours on end….sometimes 16 hours…but for some reason watching it embroider during this session and dealing with all the set up felt a bit like I was working on an assembly line.
Anyway, I am not going to give a personal critique of the show but I do think there were some strong pieces in the show, especially that of Allison Barr. I am curious to see what she will produce for the grad show this year.
