William began his lengthy career when Emily Carr was formerly known as the Vancouver School of Art. William was one of the first graduates (1968,) from a fledgling Photography program conceived and headed by John Peter Breukelman. He was the first generation of Technical staff in the early 70’s undertaking the broad role of Technical Assistant for the Photography curriculum, Film,  Animation department, and what was then a very small Audio Visual department.

Through the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s Photography as a fine art medium literally took off globally. Through these decades, William worked closely with students emerging as young artists and practitioners ensuring their technical considerations and challenges were fulfilled. With rapid growth in the medium, William’s role became exclusive and dedicated to the Photography curriculum. Film, Video, Animation and Audio Visual Resources became their own entities with additional Techncial staff positions, forming under the larger school larger school called Emily Carr College of Art and Design.

William continues to oversee the expanded Photography Department in his senior role of Coordinator Photography Resources. William provides technical instruction and direction for the curriculum while working closely with continuing and sessional faculty. William supervises, delegates, and assigns duties for expanded Photography Techncial staff, Co op Interns and student monitors.

With William’s leadership, the Photography Department has gained a world-wide reputation for not only it’s high standard of graduates, but also for being recognized as a professionally managed facility with first class analogue wet labs, film and digital studios.

William has been an exhibiting artist throughout his life. His work is considered conservative, primarily working with portraiture, nudes, and landscape subject matter.
