Welcome back! What’s new for Fall 2010 Saturday, August 21st, 2010
It’s hard to believe that it’s almost September again and time for a new academic year. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in the shop!
New courses!
We’ve added some new courses to our curriculum. In the fall, there’s Silkscreen Projects , Photographic Processes in Printmaking, Advanced Etching and Lithography, and The Book as Object. In the spring, there will be Book Media: The Democratic Multiple. All of these are third year courses.
Course updates and changes
Relief is now a 6-credit class, and Directed Projects in Digital Print Media is now Digital Print Projects. The special topics textile printing course is now permanently part of our curriculum as Textile, Surface, and Pattern.
Let us know what you think of these changes!
Some shop updates:
- The big news for this year is that by Spring 2011 we will have a polymer platemaker up and running! This will make it possible for us to make large-format polymer plates for use with the letterpress. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on it to start testing it out. Right now it’s still enroute from the supplier.
- We are working on getting the large silkscreen exposure unit working again.
- There is now a 24″ roll-based transparency printer in the Visual Arts Mac Lab — which means you can make transparencies as small as 12″ or as long as you need. Please note that the settings on the printer are different from the previous printer — your transparency should come out looking slightly yellowish. The color balance of the transparency has been tested for the most opacity needed for printmaking processes.
